We launched the Eden Valley Loops in summer 2010, following years of development by local volunteers and riding groups. The Loops are 135 km of routes designed for horse riders, off road cyclists and walkers based in Cumbria.
The development of the route was a major success, both in securing European funding and producing a really great end product – a beautiful little pack of the five routes for people who want to take up the excellent riding opportunities that the area has to offer. Now the Eden Valley loops are the first BHS route to get their own official Facebook page.
European funding of £18,500 was secured to produce the routes, part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and funding from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). As part of our monitoring agreement for the grant, we have set up a facebook page to monitor how many ‘Likes’ we get, and offer those who ride, walk or visit the route the opportunity to share their experiences.

The Eden Valley Loops showcase the beautiful scenery of the Lake District perfectly. Close to the Scottish Borders and Yorkshire Dales, the routes encompass the dramatic landscape around Ullswater and the North Pennines. Whether you’re enjoying a holiday with your horse, bicycle or on foot, or live locally and just enjoy exploring, there is something for everyone on these excellent and diverse trails. They also provide a key link to the Pennine Bridleway.
The routes are available in a free route guide from the BHS Access Department on 02476 840452 or access@bhs.org.uk . You can also visit www.emagin.org for route information.
